Movie Time RV Park, Canton , MS , to Fairview Riverside State Park , Madisonville , LA : This was not a good travel day at all. We left Canton , MS , at in the pouring rain. We stopped for fuel and breakfast and continued south on I55. We still had to go through Jackson , MS . I HATE going through Jackson , but fortunately the rain abated a little going through so it wasn’t too bad. But at times it rained so hard the visibility was zip. It rained all the way down to Madisonville . I took over driving at the Louisiana state line and right after that it rained so hard the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up. I put on the flashers and kept on keepin’ on. We finally made it safely to Fairview Riverside by , but unfortunately it took us forever to back into our site. Thought we’d never get it backed in. And it was still raining pretty hard and I’m out there with my umbrella and the walkie-talkie. Finally, after several attempts we made it. Got set up and after all the angst I was in need of a couple of strong cocktails. So we drove into Madisonville and had a couple of strong drinks and an early dinner at a place right on the Tchefuncte River . I love this area. Madisonville is a cute little historic town. The homes are very different. Even the less grandiose ones have a lot of character. And the beautiful, stately, live oaks with all the Spanish moss just adds to the allure. We’re on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain . Tomorrow we drive across the lake on the 24-mile causeway into New Orleans .
