Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL: Another
crappy day. We talked about going out for breakfast during a break in the rain,
but it started pouring again with a lot of wind, so we nixed that idea. Had
some lunch and watched two more episodes of “Shameless”. Decided we’d try the
show again, so I bought the tickets on line for the 4:10 show and printed our
ticket—so now we’re committed. Of course just as we were leaving for Key West
the skies opened up again and it poured. Made a dash for the truck and we were
on our way. Got there and had to park in the Publix lot. And it’s coming down
in buckets. Made a dash for the theater through a flooded parking lot. Got
soaking wet and I went through some deep water and my feet were soaked. I was
actually squishing as I’m walking. At least we didn’t have to wait in line for
tickets—just walked in to the ticket taker. The line at the concession stand
was way long, so we just headed to the theater where Revenant was playing.
They were having an electrical problem in this theater (of course) and there
was no lights at all. Couldn’t see a thing. And the theater was packed. We
groped our way to the very first row and plopped down. So now we’re in wet
clothes and the theaters are always air conditioned to the max. It took about
20 minutes for them to fix the electrical problem, but finally the previews
started and eventually the movie—which of course was about some mountain men
and took place in the brutal winter in the Colorado mountains. But at least it
took my mind off of how cold I was. A great movie though. Mid-70s today.
