Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Another beautiful, sunny day.  After lunch we headed to the old state road, parked at the end and walked the trail through the mangroves.  Met a guy on his bike with two dogs.  Said he went in about 3 miles and didn’t even come to the end.  We walked for an hour and then turned around and walked back.  A lot of different vegetation in there emitting wonderful smells.  There were even several cacti.  Lots of water fowl hanging out in the wetlands, salt ponds, flats, or whatever.  The mangroves are amazing.  I wonder how the early explorers managed to negotiate through these twisted, gnarled roots.  I would think you’d need a machete.  Today is the Conch Fest at Bayview Park on Truman.  Howard wasn’t going to take the stage until 9:00, but I still kinda wanted to go.  Mike wasn’t crazy about the idea.  So we didn’t go.  Parking probably would have been a nightmare anyway.  80 today.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Windy again today which made it feel cooler.  Spent most of the morning on the computer researching tickets for the Celine Dion concert which we plan to see when we’re in Las Vegas.  Also checked out some RV parks.  There’s a really nice one right in Vegas which we’ll probably reserve.  Sat outside reading for a while.  Had to be in the sun—otherwise it was pretty chilly in the wind.  Later in the afternoon we headed to Key West to see “Unknown” with Liam Neeson which was a pretty good thriller with lots of twists and turns. Upper 70s today.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Well, today started out good but quickly went downhill.  We were going to do our usual groceries and laundry, but Mike wasn’t feeling real great and then the latch on the tonneau cover over the truck bed broke, so now Mike is not only not feeling great, but he’s not a happy camper.  So I decided to just go myself.  Got that done which took longer without Mike’s help, and then headed back to the park.  Put everything away and then Mike had to go back to the dentist.  I had Waldorf salad and some watermelon for lunch and shortly after that my stomach is not feeling so great.  Undaunted, we headed to Key West later in the afternoon to catch the new thriller, “Unknown”.  That didn’t go well either because we got a late start and there was an accident on Hwy. 1 which tied up traffic.  So, we turned around and stopped at Bobbalu’s for dinner. Back home.  Nice day today.  Mid-80s and windy. 

Tuesday, 3/1/11:


Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  A beautiful, warm, sultry day.  Charlie stopped by with birthday girl, Maple, on their way around the lake.  Gave Maple her requisite treats.  She’s so funny.  After Charlie and Maple left we just hung out—Mike on the computer and me outside reading.  At 4:00 we headed over to the little point on the lake where Richard had organized a wine tasting.  We tasted various bottles of Pinot Noir—five bottles in all I believe.  The more I drank, the more they all tasted the same (sigh).  After the wine tasting Charlie suggested we go over to Mangrove Mama’s for dinner, which we readily agreed.  We asked Richard if he wanted to go along which he did.  Met Charlie and Johanne over there.  Ted stopped by.  And so did Debbie and Craig.  A beautiful day in the mid-80s.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Our lawyer/friend, Dave, and his wife, Linda, were in Key West visiting their daughter who just had a baby.  They called and asked us to join them for breakfast at Sarabeth’s.  They stopped by our place first and then we headed to Key West.  Had a sumptuous breakfast and then we went our separate ways.  Back home and I did the cleaning and Mike went and played shoes.  Over to the KOA for happy hour and then back home.  A beautiful day in the mid-80s.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  An interesting couple of days in here.  Last night while we were at Charlie and Johanne’s three police cars came sweeping into the park over to our side of the lake.  We said, should we go over and see what’s going on?  Nah, we decided.  We headed home around 7:00, and around 8:00 Johanne called and said three police cars came back in and proceeded to our side of the lake.  Looked out, and sure enough there were three police cars in the road in front of our site. Apparently there was a dispute between two couples over custody of a dog.  Won’t go into any more detail.  The police told us if they had to come back someone would be arrested and the dog would go to the pound.  The police left and we went back in and watched a movie.  This morning at 7:30 after I got out of the shower and opened the blinds the police cars were back.  I told Mike to go outside quick and see what was going on.  Well, nobody got arrested, but the owner of the park showed up right after the police left and the couple that started it all were told to leave.  Charlie showed up shortly after that with Maple.  Sat around drinking coffee and tea and enjoying Maple. Was quiet and peaceful after that.  Started a new book about Jack and Jacqueline Kennedy—“Grace and Power”.  A beautiful day in the 80s.  We’ve been invited to a “thank you” dinner at the park for the volunteers.  We only helped out a couple of times at the dinners, but what the heck.  

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Headed to Azur for breakfast this morning.  After breakfast, Mike drove down to the Eco Center to park and I walked.  Told him I’d meet him at mile marker 0 which is the corner of Fleming and Whitehead Sts.  Love walking around Key West, looking at the flowers and architecture and the little cottages.  Met up with Mike and we walked down Whitehead where the art festival was going on.  It’s amazing how talented and artsy people are.  There was some beautiful things on display—art work, sculpture, clothing, and jewelry.  I almost bought a beautiful ring.  After walking around a while we stopped and got a couple of drinks by the Green Parrot.  Back to the park and the Saturday party was going on.  Walked over there for a while and then walked with Charlie over to their site for a while and then back home.  A beautiful day in the low 80s.
