Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  After showering, dressing and partaking of my smoothie, the sun actually made an appearance.  Decided to go for a walk before more rain came in.  There is rain in the forecast still.  But, it’s now 4:00 and no rain, but there are some threatening looking clouds out to the north.  Last night we had a lot of lightening and thunder.  Very unusual for down here.  Watched another episode of “Winds of War” and then sat outside for a while.  People out and about today after yesterday’s deluge.  Mid-80s today.

St. Mary Star of the Sea -- Key West

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Woke up this morning to the sound of rain drops on the roof.  And it continued all day.  From a gentle sprinkle to an absolute downpour.  I loved it though.  I had just finished reading “Winds of War” for the second or third time and watched the first two discs of a made-for-TV miniseries based on Herman Wouk’s book of the same name.  Great book and mini-series.  More left-over turkey dinner tonight.  Mid- to upper 60s today.

Little fixer-upper?

Doors of Key West

Friday, January 3, 2014

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  A cool, windy morning.  So we decided it would be a good day to head to the Tropic Cinema in Key West.  Planned on seeing “Saving Mr. Banks” with Tom Hanks, but we got there late and it was sold out.  So we saw “Wolf of Wall Street” with Leonardo DeCaprio which was excellent.  We were late because of all the traffic on RooseveltKey West is slammed right now.  By the time we exited the theater the clouds had disappeared just in time for a nice sunset.  Walked back to our parking spot and headed back home.  The “HO HO HO” is now “HO 20 14”.  Love it!  Upper 60s today.

Doors of Key West

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Last night when Richard and Leith were over, I placed my sunglasses (prescription) on the ground and then later on proceeded to step on them. So, off we went to Sears Optical in Key West this morning to see if they could fix them.  They did, sort of.  Came back and sat outside for a while.  Carmen, the 95-year-old woman next to us invited me over to see her place.  I think she’s going to be very lonesome here.  Sat around outside enjoying this beautiful day.  Left-over turkey dinner tonight.  Mid-80s today.

Wed, Jan 1
Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  We had a great dinner last night at Lazy Days in Marathon.  I had lobster Florentine and Mike had a wonderful looking steak.  And we were just in time for a beautiful sunset.  After a couple of drinks and a relaxing dinner, we decided to nix the KOA.  Went home, watched the ball drop, and went to sleep. Today we stayed in most of the day, watched the Rose Bowl Parade and cooked a big turkey dinner.  Really nice.  Craig and Debbie had a bunch of people over.  He was cooking ribs.  Richard  and Liem stopped by and we sat around talking until about 11:00.  Nice day.

Last sunset of 2013.

View from our table.  Beautiful!

There is a rather large Australian pine growing out of the old seven mile bridge.  Every Christmas, someone decorates it.  I snapped this picture as we were going by, but it blurred.  Still, I think it looks kind of artsy.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Did the laundry this morning over at the KOA, which is totally slammed.  I’m surprised that hardly anyone was using the laundry facility.  The place is packed.  Our park is packed also.  Can’t wait for the holidays to be over so things will calm down somewhat.  Our plans for this last day of 2013 is to go to Marathon for dinner at a restaurant on the ocean side, and then maybe stop at the KOA where the band Phoenix is performing tonight.  We’ll see what we feel like after dinner and a couple of drinks.  I’m sure it will be packed over there tonight.  This morning started out sunny and while at the KOA doing our laundry the clouds rolled in.  Cleared off for a while and now it’s mostly cloudy again.  And there are pretty big rollers on our lake.  We may not see a sunset tonight.  We’ll have to wait and see.  Low 80s today.

Happy New Year!

Monday, December 30, 2013

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Mike went over to the clubhouse for donuts this morning and I did a quick cleaning.  When he got back we headed to Key West.  I wanted to get my hair cut and we went to Publix and got all the fixings for a turkey dinner for New Year’s Day.  We got aced out of a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving because my leg was in this brace contraption, so we’ll make up for it on New Year’s.  Over to the KOA for happy hour tonight and then off somewhere for dinner.  Started out cloudy and really humid this morning, but it’s cleared off and the wind has picked up and is drying everything out.  Upper 70s today.

Cute little European style hotel on Eaton St.

A big refueling plane was just taking off from Boca Chica NAS.
