Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Off to Key West to do the laundry and grocery shopping.  Lunch at the Stoned Crab again.  This afternoon we’re going over to Dale and Carolyn’s site to see their pictures of Europe and to maybe get some pointers on their trip. We have a trip planned for late summer. Sunny today, but temps in the 60s.

Love all the flora!

Mon, Jan 26, 2015:  Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Our usual Monday.  Mike went for donuts in the morning and I did the cleaning.  Shoes for Mike in the afternoon.  I was inside reading my book when Carmen ventured over and invited me over to see all the stuff she bought at a garage sale for $2.  Sat with her for a while and then got ready for happy hour over at the KOA.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Cloudy this morning. Started raining around 9:00. Had planned on going into Key West for the art show, but the weather was just too iffy.  So, we went to see the movie, “American Sniper.”  Seemed like everyone else in Key West had the same idea.  Theater was packed.  Good movie. A bunch of people are going over to the KOA tonight to see Howard Livingston and the MM24 Band.  Think we’ll pass this time.  Tomorrow the highs are only supposed to be in the 60s.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Probably our last nice day for a while, since it’s supposed to turn cold tomorrow or Sunday.  So, we headed down to Key West.  Our first stop was the Eco Center where there’s a special art exhibit on display.  Then we parked over at the Westin garage and walked around Key West harbor for a while.  There’s a 170 ft. sailing yacht in residence.  A beautiful thing.  I think it’s sloop rigged with two masts, a jib, and two bow sprit sails.  Would love to see this under sail.  There was also a luxury motor yacht docked—both with Bahamian registry.  Had lunch at Le Meson de Pepe and then headed home.  A lot of traffic in Key West.  Race Week is just winding down, there was a cruise ship in, and they’re setting up for an art show this weekend.  Was glad to get back to the relative peace and quiet of Lazy Lakes.  Low 80s today.

This beautiful yacht is stunning with it's dark blue hull and beautiful mahogany everywhere.

No shoes on the boat!

Those masts must be 170 ft. tall!

I had snapper for lunch.  Mike had a Cuban sandwich.

A chicken stopped by our table.

Race week is just winding down.  There are a lot of store fronts around town dedicated to repairing/making sails.

THE SINKING WORLD

I love the art on display at the Eco Center.  The artist, Andreas Franke, photographs sunken ship wrecks and then superimposes another picture taken with posed models.  I believe this wreck is the Vandenberg, sunk just off Key West.

This is my favorite--a ballet rehearsal.  Hard to get a decent picture.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Another beautiful, warm day today.  After lunch Mike asked if I wanted to go for a bike ride.  I didn’t really because I was so stuffed from lunch.  But I changed into my biking shorts, donned my helmet and off we went.  We checked out the new bike path heading east which is really nice.  We had to cross Hwy 1 once, but there was a good break in the traffic and we got across with no problem.  Going out it was a little bit of a slog because we were going into the wind, but coming back was a breeze—literally. A beautiful day!

The new bike path meanders through the mangroves and flats on the other side of Hwy. 1. They even put up some nice split-rail fencing in places.

Taking a break.

Through a tunnel of lush vegetation.

Saw a bunch of large white birds feeding in the flats.

Upon closer inspection, turns out they're white pelicans, aka American pelicans.  We see a lot of these in St. Louis in the winter.  This bunch was smart and came down here.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Noticeably warmer this morning.  We did the laundry and grocery shopping in Key West today and had lunch at the Stoned Crab after.  A balmy but cloudy day but finally cleared off around 4:00.  Off to Duval in Key West tonight to see Fiona. Jerry is taking his banjo and will accompany her on some songs. Haven’t seen her in over a year.  Should be a fun night. 77 today.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  The weekend was pretty cool and breezy. We want to go out to Little Palm Island for their Sunday brunch, but have a warm, sultry day in mind—not cool and breezy.  Sunday afternoon we walked around the lake, ran into Ray and Bonnie and caught up with them for a while.  They’ve been out on island three miles west of the Dry Tortugas taking care of a lighthouse.  What a fun thing that would be!  We may go into a different site next year.  Checked that out and then walked back home.  Went to Roostica’s for their Sunday gravy which was good as usual.  Today Mike will play shoes and then we’ll go over to the KOA for happy hour.  It’s still breezy and cool (sigh).
