Houston, we have a problem...

Sun, Nov 15, KOA, Wildwood, FL, to Lake Manatee State Park, Bradenton, FL:  Not a great driving day today. Had a problem right off the bat when we couldn’t make a turn getting out of the KOA in Wildwood. One of the workers had to have a truck moved that was impeding our turn. After that we got on I75 okay, but were inundated with construction on I75 just south of Wildwood. I pulled into a rest area and let Mike take over. We ran out of construction just north of Tampa and it was just fine after that. We arrived at Lake Manatee and were set up by 1:00. Mike’s walkie-talkie had dead batteries, but we were able to get in there okay. A nice site with lots of privacy. But…something is dropping down under our passenger side storage compartment. Looks like a cover over the insulation or something. Guess we’ll have to find a mobile RV repair facility to fix whatever it is (sigh). Took a walk down to the lake and back.  A nice day in the low 80s and breezy.

Looks like a cover over the insulation is dropping down under one of our storage compartments. Got to get that fixed before we go any further.

Our site at Lake Manatee.

Hopefully we'll have a fire going in that fire pit some night soon.

Wildwood, FL

Sat, Nov 14, KOA, Wildwood, FL:  Another nice day today. Mid-70s with a cool breeze. I decided to get rid of some way overripe bananas and made banana bread. Used the oven for the first time. Turned out okay. We didn’t do much today. We have the Gallagher’s across from us. For those of you who watched the “Shameless” series, you know what I mean. Take-out for dinner again. We leave tomorrow for Lake Manatee in Bradenton. We’re there for 5 days.

Wildwood, FL

Fri, Nov 13, KOA, Perry, FL, to KOA, Wildwood, FL:  Another beautiful day today. We had a quick breakfast at Huddle House and then came back and got the fifth wheel ready for the road. A short driving day today too. We continued south on 19/27 and then took Alt. 27 toward Ocala. About 20 miles from Ocala we started seeing these huge horse ranches with acres and acres of beautiful pastures, dotted with stately live oak trees and beautiful horses. All of this enclosed in neat white or brown flat board fencing and elaborate electronic gates. Arrived at the KOA and were set up by 1:30. Relaxed for a while and then regrouped and did the laundry. Take-out for dinner tonight. 83 here today.

Perry, FL

Thu, Nov 12, KOA, Perry, FL:  What a beautiful day today! We slept in this morning. Then after our morning ablutions we had a late breakfast at the Huddle House in Perry. Ran a few errands and then back to our site to relax and read. The sky is a beautiful blue, crisscrossed by white entrails from jets flying way up in the ether. Wonder where they’re all going in such a hurry? A relaxing day—leftovers for dinner. Tomorrow we head to the KOA at Wildwood for a couple of days.

This isn't the greatest campground, but there are some beautiful live oaks in here.

Milton, FL, to Perry, FL

Wed, Nov 11, KOA, Milton, FL, to KOA, Perry, FL:  Finally! The sunshine is back! A beautiful day today. A pleasant drive as well. While we were on I10, we saw a motorhome coming up the on ramp pulling a pickup truck with a motorcycle in the bed of the truck. And, he was carrying a boat as well wedged between the back of the motorhome and the front of the pickup. Not sure how it was secured. It didn’t look safe at all.  We were waiting for him to pass us, but he never did—which was a good thing. We lost an hour today. We’re now on eastern time (ugh!). We arrived in Perry and were hooked up by 3:30. It is so easy to set up this new fifth wheel. 75 today and sunny.

Milton, FL

Tue, Nov 10, KOA, Milton, FL:  Another grey, cool and cloudy day today. We did the grocery shopping and then shopped around for a step stool so we can more easily reach some of the high storage areas in our new fifth wheel. Did some more reorganizing and then had a glass of wine and played cribbage for a while. Tomorrow we leave for Perry on Florida’s west coast. Supposed to be a sunny and warm day. We’ll see.  63 and cloudy today.

Pensacola on a much nicer day.

Milton, FL

Mon, Nov 9, KOA, Milton, FL:  The rain finally stopped, but it was a cloudy, drab, and cool day. Didn’t even go outside. We discovered a leak of some sort on the slide by the couch. Carpeting is pretty wet. Not sure where it’s coming from. But in the process of checking out the leak, we discovered the sofa is a sleeper sofa. We both did some reading, and more rearranging of stuff. Think tomorrow we’ll go out and do something exciting—like grocery shopping. Only in the low 60s today.
