Sat, Jan 9, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Woke up this morning to a warm, non-windy day. Looked out the back window and the lake was like glass. So, we got the bikes out, pumped up the tires, and went for a bike ride. Ran into our fishermen, John and Larry, on the Bow Channel bridge. Continued on, crossing over Hwy. 1 where the bike path continues on the other side of the road. This section is nice. You’re in the mangroves with the flats on one side with water birds galore. Biked to where you have to cross Hwy. 1 again and decided to turn around. On the way back we stopped at the KOA and enjoyed a cold drink. Then biked over to Chuck and Douglas’s place but they weren’t home. Back to Lazy Lakes and cooled off for a while. Tonight we’re going to the Waterfront Theater in Key West to see Casa Valentina. Looks to be a nice evening, so hopefully we’ll be able to dine al fresco. Low 80s today and beautiful.

Lake is like a mirror--clouds reflecting off the water.

On the bike path.

Lots of water birds on the flats.

Love the flora down here.

Fri, Jan 7, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Yesterday I cleaned up our site after the rain we had—swept the mat and put the chairs back. Chilly, so we didn’t sit out much. We did go for a walk down Johnson Road and back, stopping at Karen & Jim’s site for a while. Today we hardly went out. I got on the computer to do a simple chore and it took all morning. Warm out, but cloudy. We’ll take that.

Wed, Jan 6, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Started out nasty today, but by noon it pretty much cleared. Messed around with the band at 1:00 and then Mike and I headed down to Key West to the Red Barn Theater. We saw a Neil Simon play, “Fools”, about a town in the Ukraine that was cursed with stupidity. Pretty funny. Had dinner at the Hard Rock CafĂ© before the show, which is pretty convenient since it’s just next door to the theater. Turned out to be a beautiful evening. We dined al fresco under the palms. Mid-70s today.

Cocktails and dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Tue, Jan 5, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  A nasty day today. A good day to do our usual Tuesday chores. After the laundry and grocery shopping we had lunch at Big John’s Pizza in Key West. Really good. Back home and hunkered down with our books. Supposed to get a thunder storm tonight which is unusual. I actually had socks on today—socks!  71 today, rainy and windy. On the way back from Key West we saw a guy off the side of the road in the mangroves with a full set of drums playing away—in the drizzling rain. Really?

Art Gallery on Duval.

Mon, Jan 4, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Woke up this morning to a real chill in the air. So we slept in. Didn’t get up until 9:30! We are getting bad. Hung around inside all day.  Jim and Karen stopped by for a little while. Mike went over to play shoes. Can’t believe they’re actually playing—it’s kind of a crappy day. Never too crappy for happy hour though. Heading over there shortly. And then Boondocks for dinner. Love it! Supposed to hit 71 today. Doesn’t feel like it.

You find the prettiest orchids down here.

Sun, Jan 3, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Poured down rain this morning.  Decided to head to Key West and see “The Big Short” at the Tropic. A pretty decent movie about the 2008 housing crash and Wall Street greed. Theater was packed. Seems everyone had the same idea. We left the theater and the skies had cleared and the air smelled clean and fresh. Walked over to the Navy pier and sat for a while enjoying the clear air and nice breeze. There were 3 cruise ships in. Most of the people were back on the ship, so not a lot of people around. Heading back up the Keys the traffic was way better also. Things are good. Mid-80s again, but cooling down. Our neighbor, Larry, brought over some bean soup he made. Had that for dinner instead of left-over turkey. Really good.

View out our back window. Terrible picture because it focused on the dirt on our window. But you get the picture. T.he lake is like glass tonight.

Sat, jan 2, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  After morning ablutions and breakfast, I went for a walk. Mike opted out. Walked down Johnson Road and over to the Bow Channel bridge and back. Took some bags with me and picked up trash on Johnson Road. I hate it when people just hurl things out their car windows. A beautiful day again—warm with a gentle breeze. When I got back I needed another shower. Sat outside until I cooled off. Finished the book I was reading, “Pursuit of Honor” and started another one. Life is good. Mid-80s again today.

Sunset in Key West.
