Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Last night when Richard and Leith were over, I placed my sunglasses (prescription) on the ground and then later on proceeded to step on them. So, off we went to Sears Optical in Key West this morning to see if they could fix them.  They did, sort of.  Came back and sat outside for a while.  Carmen, the 95-year-old woman next to us invited me over to see her place.  I think she’s going to be very lonesome here.  Sat around outside enjoying this beautiful day.  Left-over turkey dinner tonight.  Mid-80s today.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  We had a great dinner last night at Lazy Days in Marathon.  I had lobster Florentine and Mike had a wonderful looking steak.  And we were just in time for a beautiful sunset.  After a couple of drinks and a relaxing dinner, we decided to nix the KOA.  Went home, watched the ball drop, and went to sleep. Today we stayed in most of the day, watched the Rose Bowl Parade and cooked a big turkey dinner.  Really nice.  Craig and Debbie had a bunch of people over.  He was cooking ribs.  Richard  and Liem stopped by and we sat around talking until about 11:00.  Nice day.

Last sunset of 2013.

View from our table.  Beautiful!

There is a rather large Australian pine growing out of the old seven mile bridge.  Every Christmas, someone decorates it.  I snapped this picture as we were going by, but it blurred.  Still, I think it looks kind of artsy.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Did the laundry this morning over at the KOA, which is totally slammed.  I’m surprised that hardly anyone was using the laundry facility.  The place is packed.  Our park is packed also.  Can’t wait for the holidays to be over so things will calm down somewhat.  Our plans for this last day of 2013 is to go to Marathon for dinner at a restaurant on the ocean side, and then maybe stop at the KOA where the band Phoenix is performing tonight.  We’ll see what we feel like after dinner and a couple of drinks.  I’m sure it will be packed over there tonight.  This morning started out sunny and while at the KOA doing our laundry the clouds rolled in.  Cleared off for a while and now it’s mostly cloudy again.  And there are pretty big rollers on our lake.  We may not see a sunset tonight.  We’ll have to wait and see.  Low 80s today.

Happy New Year!

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Mike went over to the clubhouse for donuts this morning and I did a quick cleaning.  When he got back we headed to Key West.  I wanted to get my hair cut and we went to Publix and got all the fixings for a turkey dinner for New Year’s Day.  We got aced out of a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving because my leg was in this brace contraption, so we’ll make up for it on New Year’s.  Over to the KOA for happy hour tonight and then off somewhere for dinner.  Started out cloudy and really humid this morning, but it’s cleared off and the wind has picked up and is drying everything out.  Upper 70s today.

Cute little European style hotel on Eaton St.

A big refueling plane was just taking off from Boca Chica NAS.
CORRECTION:  I'm told this is actually a P-3 Orion Sub Hunter.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Rained off and on all day.  Love nothing better than curling up with a good book and listening to the gentle patter of the rain.  Got my fill of that today.  Had a great time last night at the KOA pub listening to Howard and the band.  At one point during the evening a couple approached us and asked if I was Joan and if the guy with me was Mike.  I said yes, and they told me their son, Duane, reads my blog all the time.  He lives on Sugarloaf—in fact we have biked by his home several times.  I can’t believe this couple was able to pick us out from the rather large crowd at the KOA.  I told her she should be a private detective.  Would have loved to talk with them more, but the music was so loud you couldn’t really carry on a conversation.  I had indicated in the blog yesterday that we were heading to the KOA and their son told them to try and find us—just by the picture of us in the blog.  Amazing!  Last night when we got home it was such a beautiful night and the stars were brilliant, so we sat outside for a while and listened to the night sounds.  A couple of people stopped by on their way around the lake.  Nice and warm again today—and wet.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Another quiet day today.  The play last night was very funny.  We ran into Jerry and Char from our park there as well. The Waterfront Theater is such a small intimate venue. Would have been fun to walk around Key West after the play, but I was so tired because I didn’t get much sleep last night.  So, as soon as the play was over we headed straight home.  We’re going over to the KOA tonight to see Howard Livingston and the MM24 band.  We’ll have dinner somewhere before we go over there.  Nice and warm today, but lots of clouds off and on.  Upper 70s today.

Got down to Key West last night just in time for a beautiful sunset.

The pretty little Waterfront Theater--was an ice warehouse back in the day.

The Westin was all decorated up.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  A very quiet day today.  We’re heading to the Waterfront Theater tonight to see “Leading Ladies.”  Dinner at the Rooftop CafĂ© at 6:00 and the theater at 8:00.  Should be fun.  Didn’t go out and about today and didn’t see anyone out and about.  Everyone laying low.  Upper 70s today.

Last year at the Rooftop Cafe in Key West.
