Jonathan Dickinson SP, Jupiter, FL:  The wind blew and blew all night last night.  There were tornado warnings out for our area, so I set the Noah weather radio for alerts and then took it in the bedroom with me.  There were two alerts, but they were both boating alerts.  The morning was still rainy and cool, so we went to see “Three Days to Kill” with Kevin Costner.  An okay action movie.  When we came out of the theater it had turned into a beautiful day, so we drove over to Jupiter Island to see how the top 1% live.  Pretty impressive place with these huge, palatial homes which you can barely see because of the artful and beautifully maintained landscaping.  Exited on the Hobe end of the island, which is where Tiger’s place is.  80 today.

Jonathan Dickinson SP, Jupiter, FL:  Supposed to be really stormy today.  But it was just cloudy and very windy.  I was on the computer all morning which left me in a foul mood.  After that we went to check out the movie times at the local cinema and then had some lunch.  I needed a big drink after dealing with the computer all morning.  After lunch we went to see “Non-Stop” with Liam Neeson which was an okay movie.  It was 87 when we came out of the show.  Wanted to take a bike ride, but it’s just too windy.  Supposed to get severe weather tonight—including tornado warnings. I’ll be taking the Noah weather radio to bed with me tonight.  Upper 80s today.

Jupiter Light

Spent the last seven days in the Florida Everglades with no hook-ups. Couldn't get our usual site 9, so we had to haul water instead of the ease of hooking up our hose to fill our tank. But it all worked out okay. Visited all our favorite spots. Spent a lot of time at Mahogany Hammock with the new clutch of owlets.  They're really young this year. Met a really nice guy at Mahogany--an amateur wildlife photographer. He was shooting the owlets, and while there talking with him mama owl made an appearance. How neat is that! 

We left the Everglades (reluctantly) this morning around 10:00, stopped at the dump station and emptied our tanks, and were on our way.  Drove up the Florida Turnpike and stopped at the West Palm Service Area for some lunch and then Mike took over driving.  We arrived at Jonathan Dickinson SP in Jupiter and were set up by 2:00.  Extremely windy.  Left right away to do the laundry and grocery shopping.  With that out of the way, we have the rest of our time here for whatever.  Mid-80s today.

Pictures from the Everglades

The Everglades has huge areas of sawgrass dotted with hammocks.  And a river runs through it all!  Albeit a shallow river; anywhere from 2 inches to 2 feet deep.  The River of Grass.  A shadow of its former self however--what with all the water diversion and development that has taken place.

Thought there was only one owlet this year, but there's the other peeking out from behind.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  We went over to the KOA this morning and did our laundry one last time.  Mutley’s owners, Wes and Robin, got home last night around 11:00, so he’s a happy dog.  Jerry and Char are coming over this afternoon and we’ll crack a couple of bottles of wine.  This is our last day here.  We leave tomorrow morning for the Everglades where we’ll have no hook-ups for 7 days or so.  No Internet either, so we’ll be incognito until we get to Jupiter, FL.  It’s been great down here in the Keys.  We’ll be back in 9 months and it should be even better.  The new bike paths should be completed by then, and all the work they’re doing here in the park will be done.  We probably won’t even recognize the place.  Another gorgeous day today—low 80s.

We will miss the beautiful sunsets down here.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Went over this morning bright and early to get Mutley—only to be confronted with yet another mess.  He tore up his food plate and had bits of food and paper plate strewn all over.  He ripped the fire extinguisher off the wall and even pulled out the pin!  Lucky he didn’t have that sprayed all over.  He also pooped and peed—even though we walked him 5 times yesterday.  Went and got Mike to help me clean everything up.  I even ran the vacuum cleaner.  After cleaning up, I walked him and figured I wouldn’t need a poop bag.  And, of course, he pooped.  So, had to go back and get a bag and then figure out where he pooped so I could clean it up.  We had a bunch of errands to run, so we took Mutley with us.  He’s such a good dog.  We even took him out to breakfast with us and he sat under our table and didn’t make a peep.  Left him in the truck once while we were at Walgreens and he didn’t even bark.  He’s so good.  He just doesn’t like to be left alone at night.  I gave him a bath when we got back and he spent the rest of the day at our site.  They’re not going to be home until around midnight.  So we took him back at around 7:30.  Put all his food and other stuff on the counter.  Hope he’ll be okay.  We left a light on for him and the radio.  Keeping our fingers crossed. That was our day.  Chilly today.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Up this morning first thing and walked Mutley.  Came back and took him back home and then we started washing the walls and ceiling.  Got that mostly done and we could hear Mutley barking, so we went over and brought him over to our site while we finished up.  Walked him 3 more times.  I’m pooped.  He trots along pretty fast.  We’re going to see the New York City Ballet tonight at the Tennessee Williams Theater.  Should be really good.  We’ll have dinner somewhere before.  It’s still really windy today.  Probably in the low 70s.

Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  This morning I got up at 8:00 and heard Mutley barking and howling.  So, I just brushed my teeth, dressed, and headed over to pick him up.  He was at the front door all excited to see me.  Took him for a walk, came back and took him back home, but he started barking and howling, so I went back and brought him over to our site after taking him for another walk.  He stayed at our site most of the day.  He’s still so unhappy.  Took him for two more walks and then we took him back home and then headed for the clubhouse and the wine tasting.  A severe weather front was coming through, so we put our awning up.  The sky turned black and threatening and the wind picked up. Waited for a while and then made a dash for it  to the clubhouse.  We were able to get the wine tasting in, but not without a lot of wetness.  After the wine tasting we waited for a lull in the storm and then made a dash for it.  The roads are all under water and we got pretty wet with the blowing rain.  Going back for movie night tonight.  They’re showing “Dallas Buyers Club” tonight.  Mutley is out of luck for another walk tonight.  Was really warm and humid before the front came through.  Now it’s pretty chilly—well 70 degrees.  Not that chilly for our northern friends.
