Drove into Bath today. Parked in the old, historic downtown area and walked around and checked out some of the shops. Then went to the Maritime Museum. Bought the boat tour of the Kennebec River (which the museum is on) along with admission to the museum. The boat tour was leaving in half an hour so we bought a couple of sandwiches in the snack bar and boarded the boat for the tour. We went right by the Bath Iron Works on the boat tour. They’re currently building two destroyers (Aegis class). These things go as fast as 50 knots! Went down the river a way and checked out a couple of light houses. Went by Maury Pauvich and Connie Chung’s summer home on the river in Bath. He inherited it from his grandfather. Then went through the museum which was really interesting. All about boat building in the 1800s. There was a rope making shed as part of the ship building complex that was 4 football fields long—a long, narrow building. The guy whose job was to make the rope walked about 10 miles a day in this process. Wow. Headed back and picked up a few groceries on the way.. Another beautiful day
