Tue, Nov. 1: St.
Louis, MO, to KOA, W. Memphis, AR: Left
this morning under sunny skies. We’ve
had a spate of really warm weather here in St. Louis lately, so our first few
days should be blessed with warm, sunny temps. But the further south we went the
windier it got. At first it was a cross wind and then it shifted around to the
south to we were fighting it all the way down. Took longer than usual and lousy
gas mileage to boot. But that was just a harbinger of things to come. After
stopping in Sikeston for fuel and food, Mike started driving and that same
panel that covers the insulation on the underside of the fifth wheel started
coming down. We had to stop on the highway and get rid of some of it and then
we continued on. After another 5 minutes or so a trucker passed us and tooted
his horn. So, we got off at the next exit, pulled over and some wiring was
hanging down and dragging on the road. Jeeze! After much angst and gnashing of
teeth, Mike got out the ole duct tape and secured the wiring as best he could.
After an hour delay we continued on. Got to the KOA in W. Memphis at 4:00. 86
here. We’ll have to get it fixed in Louisiana when we stop there. Hopefully the
duct tape will hold out ‘til then.
