Left Saco this morning at just before noon and arrived at Boothbay by 2:00. Beautiful area and very historic. Some of the little towns we went through were founded in the 1600s. Lots to see. And the campground we’re staying in is beautiful. Lots of pine trees. We’re in a back-in site loaded with trees. And we have full cable. However, had some problems with the truck on the way up here and took it to a GMC dealer in Bath, ME, thinking it might be transmission problems, but it turned out to be a fuel filter. So, that turned out well. It was very foggy here. We’re real close to the ocean and several rivers also. And there are a lot of salt marsh areas all over Maine. What a great place to have a canoe or kayak. Tomorrow we explore some of the historic towns and the coastal areas. Hopefully it will be warm and sunny—well, at least warm.

York Beach

Look at all these idiots! It's 65 degrees, cloudy, and breezy. And here they all are at the beach. They think they're having fun! We're in polartech. We must be wimps.

Another rainy morning. So I decided it would be a good time to get my hair cut. Drove into south Portland and did just that and picked up a few groceries. Starting to clear. We finally decided to drive into old Portland and check out the port. Called a friend of ours, Lance, who also spends the winter in the Keys (lives in Portland) to see if he was available to meet us for a drink. He actually was, so we met him in old Portland at Gritty McDuff’s. When we got there and found a parking place it was absolutely pouring buckets and we had to walk a few blocks. Got absolutely soaked by the time we got to the restaurant. Had a few drinks and some dinner. Was great seeing Lance and chatting with him for a while. Walked around old town a little bit and bought some candy at a shop there (like we need it) and then headed back to our parking spot. It’s still sprinkling. Got back and turned on the heat. Hung up my jacket to try and dry it out. We’re thinking about going along on the mail boat tomorrow which delivers mail to a bunch of islands off of Portland. Only if it’s not raining or threatening rain!

Lighthouse on York Beach, Maine

Well it was rainy this morning. But, undaunted, we headed out to explore the coast south of where we are (south of Portland). We went through the little towns of Saco, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, York, and Kittery. Drove down to York Village and York Beach. So many neat homes—some really old and historic. The beach was a zoo and of course it was packed. And lots of people were in the water. Well, of course, they probably needed to cool off—it was all the way up to 65 degrees and cloudy. Jeeze, these people are nuts. Turned around to come back and stopped at a roadside stand and bought some butter/sugar corn, blueberries, and tomatoes. Then we stopped to get something to eat at Lobster in the Rough and headed for Kennebunkport. What a neat place! Some of the homes date back to the 1700 and 1800s. And huge homes. Saw the Bush compound just outside of town. Nice place. Then headed back.
