Visit to the ER

Tue, Feb 9, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  After our dinner last night I had to take Mike to the ER. He was dizzy, sweating profusely, nauseous and vomiting. He threw up again on the way. Had to pull over at Shark Key. Spent hours at the ER and the diagnosis was food poisoning. Today we found out that three people out of our party of 17 also got sick and threw up. Didn’t get home from the ER until 1:30 this morning. Basically just laid low today. A few people stopped by to see how he was doing. Dale stopped by with wine since there were like 4 women over there and he said they were sucking up all the oxygen. Poor guy. They have two female visitors staying with them and Dale is sleeping in a tent outside. He comes over to our place for refuge and wine. We did our usual laundry and grocery shopping in the morning. Breezy and cool today.

Key West

Mon, Feb 8, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Started out rather cool this morning, but it turned into a beautiful day—sunny and 65. I finished up the cleaning and then Mike went over to play shoes while I enjoyed my solitude. I was finishing up a book Larry lent me when I saw a huge motor home come through with a rather large trailer behind. The corner down here is hard to maneuver with a big rig and, sure enough, he hit the palm tree. He couldn’t back up or go forward without damaging his motor home. So he got out one of those git-along or pull-along thingys and pulled the palm tree away enough to back it out. They backed it all the way back out. Pretty impressive I thought. Over for happy hour tonight and then somewhere for dinner.

Big rigs have to be careful on this corner down here. The one palm kind of angles out and they get into trouble if they're not looking up. Hope they don't have to cut down that beautiful palm.
View from our back window. Our resident pelican is back.

The lake is especially pretty today with cloudy reflections.

Sun, Feb 7, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Stormed last night and was quite chilly and very windy. We went in to Key West to see “Finest Hours”, the movie about the amazing Coast Guard rescue when an oil tanker was broken in half in a winter storm off the coast of Massachusetts in 1951. Came back and went to the Super Bowl party at the club house. Martin cooked up some ribs and everyone brought a dish. We left after dinner and came back home to watch the game. I’m rooting for Carolina. Mike is rooting for Denver. At least one of us will be happy.

Sat, Feb 6, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Cloudy this morning, but pretty warm. We didn’t do much but read and watch TV. Started pouring later in the afternoon and it’s still raining and foggy. 60s today and probably all next week.

Schooner Western Union on a beautiful night a couple of years ago.

Fri, Feb 5, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Not a great day today, weather wise. We hung out inside most of the day watching Cleopatra. Had seen parts of it, but not the whole thing. It was a pretty good movie actually—very long though. Dave and Amy came over for dinner at 5:30. After dinner we played Trivial Pursuit. Fun.

Thu, Feb 4, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Warm and breezy this morning. After breakfast I moved the chaise into the sun and read my book for a while. Sitting outside is warm if you’re sitting in the sun—not so much in the shade. Mike didn’t get up until 11:00! Guess he stayed up late watching something on the History channel. I told him I was going for a walk and he wanted to come along, so we stopped at Dave and Amy’s and picked up one of their dogs to take along. After walking a short distance on Johnson Road, the dog wanted to go back. So, Mike took him back home and I continued on and walked to the KOA and back. After lunch we watched “The Walk” on Netflix. Really good movie about the French guy who affixed a cable between the twin towers in NYC and walked it. The event was way more involved than I thought. He walked back and forth a couple of times, laid down on the wire even. Amy called while we were watching the movie and invited us for dinner at their place. Went over about 5:00 with our wine and stuff. Nice evening. Mike, Dave and Amy went over to the clubhouse for movie night. “The Martian” was playing. I had seen it, so I went back home. Another nice day. Low 80s.

Wed, Feb 3, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Another nice day today. Took my smoothie next door to Larry’s and sat with he and John and Sandy for a while. After lunch I went over to play with the band. Then Dave, Amy, Mike and I headed to Marathon for dinner at Lazy Days. Really good meal and a nice sunset. Back home and Dave came over for a Bailey’s or two. Low 80s today with a nice tropical breeze. Does it get any better? I don't think so.
