Thu, Nov 3:  Movie Town RV Park, Canton, MS, to Fairview-Riverside SP, Mandeville, LA:  Congrats to the Chicago Cubs!  They did it!  That was the most exciting World Series I’ve ever seen!  Especially games 6 and 7!  Got a late start this morning.  Didn’t leave Canton until 10:45.  Stopped for fuel right away and headed out.  I hate driving through Jackson, MS, but I did.  Got through that and then I55 turned to crap. Go figure!  Mike started driving just north of Macomb and we arrived at Fairview-Riverside at around 2:30.  After setting up we had dinner at Morton’s in Madisonville.  Mike had oysters and I had a grilled chicken Caesar.  Back to our site and sat outside for a while enjoying this beautiful evening.  85 here in Madisonville. Here for 4 nights.

Wed, Nov. 2:  KOA, W. Memphis, AR, to Movie Town RV Park, Canton, MS:  Before we left this morning I walked over to talk with the two women traveling in a fifth wheel in the site behind us. These women (a lady in her 50s traveling with her mother) travel from San Diego to Virginia twice a year to visit family. Pretty adventurous I’d say. And, it’s a 41 ft. fifth wheel. They’ve been doing it for 17 years and so far haven’t had any major problems. Anyway, we headed out at around 10:00 and arrived at Movie Town at 2:15. Stopped once for food. I wondered why they call this place Movie Town.  Turns out they’ve made several movies in the Canton area—the most notable one being “To Kill a Mockingbird”.  Well, that explains it.  A beautiful day again—85 here in Canton. And no CFs today. I made a big soup before we left St. Louis. So, left-over soup tonight.

Day #1, CF#1

Tue, Nov. 1:   St. Louis, MO, to KOA, W. Memphis, AR:  Left this morning under sunny skies.  We’ve had a spate of really warm weather here in St. Louis lately, so our first few days should be blessed with warm, sunny temps. But the further south we went the windier it got. At first it was a cross wind and then it shifted around to the south to we were fighting it all the way down. Took longer than usual and lousy gas mileage to boot. But that was just a harbinger of things to come. After stopping in Sikeston for fuel and food, Mike started driving and that same panel that covers the insulation on the underside of the fifth wheel started coming down. We had to stop on the highway and get rid of some of it and then we continued on. After another 5 minutes or so a trucker passed us and tooted his horn. So, we got off at the next exit, pulled over and some wiring was hanging down and dragging on the road. Jeeze! After much angst and gnashing of teeth, Mike got out the ole duct tape and secured the wiring as best he could. After an hour delay we continued on. Got to the KOA in W. Memphis at 4:00. 86 here. We’ll have to get it fixed in Louisiana when we stop there. Hopefully the duct tape will hold out ‘til then.

Mon, Mar 28, KOA, W. Memphis, AR, to home:  A sunny, cool morning. A perfect driving day though. I drove to Sikeston where we stopped for fuel and food. Not a pretty drive, with fallow fields for miles. The only thing that broke up the monotony was a couple of crop dusters. Boy, can they fly those little planes!  Mike started driving after our fuel stop and we were home by 3:00. It’s good to be home for a while. We’ll head out again probably late June or early July.

Sat, Mar 26, Birmingham South RV Park, Birmingham, AL, to KOA, W. Memphis, AR:  Another beautiful, sunny day. We left Birmingham at 8:40 this morning. Took I65 north and then Rt. 78 west. Actually, it’s now Interstate 22. In some places it’s still marked as Rt. 78 and others I22. Very confusing. Anyway, it’s a pretty drive through the rolling hills of rural Alabama and Mississippi. Stopped in Tupelo for fuel and food and then Mike took over driving. We finally got here and were set up by 3:30. Then we gathered the laundry and went to the laundry room to get that out of the way. Tomorrow we can relax a little and gather up things we need to take home on Monday. Supposed to be some iffy weather tomorrow. Tired. Going to bed early tonight. 72 today.

Fri, Mar 25, Birmingham South RV Park, Birmingham, AL:  A beautiful, sunny spring day today. We took care of some chores before we head home on Monday.  Picked up a few groceries, fueled up the truck, and then went to Dreamland Barbecue on the UAB campus. And what a pretty campus. Mike has been looking forward to Dreamland Barbecue for a while. We had to endure rush hour traffic coming and going, but Mike says it was worth it. We leave tomorrow morning for W. Memphis. 70 today and beautiful.

Thu, Mar 24, KOA, Tallahassee, FL, to Birmingham South RV Park, Birmingham, AL:  A long driving day today.  We headed west on I10 and then north on Rt. 231 which is a four-lane minimum access highway. A good road, but we got tied up in traffic around Dothan and Troy. Finally got on I65 north at Montgomery, AL, and arrived at our park and were set up by 4:30 or so. Ran into rain just south of Birmingham, but no severe weather. Temps were mid-70s until the front came through which dropped the temps over 10 degrees. We’re here for two days.

There was this one little lily in our site in Tallahassee. An Easter Lily no doubt.
