Thu, Jan 18, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Stayed holed up most of the day.  Really cold last night.  Had left-over pot roast, read, and watched Netflix.  I did finally have to take the garbage over to the dumpster and dropped off the Netflix at the office.  Ran into Char, Jerry, and Dale.  I was bundled up like crazy, but it wasn’t too bad in the sun.  The wind was brutal though.  We are such wimps!

Wed, Jan 17, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Headed to Key West today.  Figured it would be the only decent day for a while.  Went to see “The Post” at the Tropic.  Parked at the post office and walked to the Tropic to get our tickets and then walked around for a while before our show.  Our first foray to Old Town this year, and there is very little sign of hurricane damage.  After the movie we drove over to the Eco Center where we used to park to see what changes they’ve made.  They put in a new park and an amphitheater and planted lots of large palm trees.  I read somewhere that a royal palm goes for about $20,000!  I guess the tree growers are doing well.  There is still free parking available there, so in the future we can park and walk.  Truman Annex is still beautiful.  Supposed to get down into the 40s tonight!  Yikes!  70 today and mostly cloudy.

Marilyn is still there.

Tue, Jan 16, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Off to Key West early this morning for a doctor appointment.  Mike drove me.  On the drive up Hwy 1 we didn’t see any detritus from the hurricane at all.  After the doctor we drove to Big Pine, did the grocery shopping and picked up some scripts at Walgreens.  Turned out to be a beautiful day—albeit with a little chilly breeze. Took care of some other chores and then sat around reading for a while.  Put together a pot roast in the crock pot earlier, and it’s starting to smell pretty good in here. The dogs next door started barking, which is unusual.  Seems a pelican stopped by for a visit and they weren’t too happy about that.  Low 70s today and mostly sunny.

Mon, Jan 15, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  We’ve been holed up for the past few days because of the weather.  We did go over to Char and Jerry’s for an impromptu happy hour on Friday evening, but our hearts were not into it.  Neither one of us feeling too swift anyway.  Mike is actually running a fever.  He NEVER runs a fever.  I was the least sick today, so I did the laundry.  Didn’t take long at all.  And, more good news—another cold front is looming out there which should come through on Wednesday.  Yay!

Fri, Jan 12, azy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  Thought we might head into Key West today since it might be the only decent day we have for a while.  But, before long the clouds rolled in.  So, we went to the Galley Grill on Summerland Key and had lunch.  While we were sitting there, a helicopter flew over—VERY LOW.  It made a VERY STEEP bank and turned around heading right over Hwy 1.  Thought maybe they were after someone, but we finally figured out they were spraying insecticide.  He made several more passes with steep banks—back and forth.  Each one went more and more inland.  That was our excitement for the day.  Back home and just as we got inside it started pouring down rain.  In the afternoon we picked up our Netflix and the rest of our mail from the office and settled in for the evening.  Made it to 80, then cooled down with the rain into the mid-70s.

Thu, Jan 11, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf, FL:  Drove to Big Pine and had Douglas cut my hair.  Now it’s really short.  Think I’ll let it grow back out.  It’s getting cleaner and cleaner as we drive down Hwy 1 to Big Pine. And they drive these large tanker trucks up and down the keys full of water and water all the palms and other vegetation just planted.  Didn’t feel up to the dinner last night.  The theme was breakfast for dinner.  Just didn’t feel like it.  It rained pretty good last night.  We need the rain.  Low 80s today and beautiful.

Wed, Jan 10, Lazy Lakes RV Park, Sugarloaf Key, FL:  The last few days were spent grocery shopping, laundry, and staying warm inside.  We finally ventured out yesterday and Dale and Carolyn came over in the afternoon, wine in hand.  We’ve noticed that more and more storm debris is removed every day as we head to Big Pine on Hwy 1..  I’ve also noticed there aren’t many mourning doves around—in fact, I haven’t seen any.  Maybe they didn’t fare so well.  Right now the skies to the north are looking stormy.  We have to run an errand in Key West.  We haven’t even been to old town yet.  Left-overs for dinner tonight.  Upper 70s today and a mix of clouds and sun.
