Moosehead Lake

Up early this morning and headed out for Moosehead Lake. Stopped at our favorite restaurant for breakfast. Took Rt. 201 North again which is a beautiful drive and then Rt. 6/15 out of Jackman heading East. Passed a couple of pretty lakes before we got to Moosehead Lake. A beautiful area. The lake is huge (the largest in Maine) and has very few homes or camps on it. Most of it is pretty wild and pristine. When you get to the town of Greenville you’re at the south end of the lake. Greenville is a pretty town—cute shops and restaurants in the little downtown area. But Mike wanted to take a side trip to Lily Bay State Park which is just past Greenville. I’m so glad we did because some of the views of the lake were incredible. And the homes we saw on that drive were incredible. We didn’t think there was camping at the park, but there is. And it’s a really nice campground. Checked out all of the sites. Then went to the picnic area by the beach and had some snacks. Large swimming area and of course everyone was in swimming. Left there and headed back. Coming in to Greenville we saw a pair of red foxes. One had a fresh kill. And on the way back we saw a moose. Had dinner at the Old Mill Pub on the Kennebec River in Skohegan, then back home. Great day.
