Maine surfer...
air temp about 65.... water temp about 55

Left Saco this morning at just before noon and arrived at Boothbay by 2:00. Beautiful area and very historic. Some of the little towns we went through were founded in the 1600s. Lots to see. And the campground we’re staying in is beautiful. Lots of pine trees. We’re in a back-in site loaded with trees. And we have full cable. However, had some problems with the truck on the way up here and took it to a GMC dealer in Bath, ME, thinking it might be transmission problems, but it turned out to be a fuel filter. So, that turned out well. It was very foggy here. We’re real close to the ocean and several rivers also. And there are a lot of salt marsh areas all over Maine. What a great place to have a canoe or kayak. Tomorrow we explore some of the historic towns and the coastal areas. Hopefully it will be warm and sunny—well, at least warm.

The Marginal Way

Tuesday, July 10

Well, this morning it’s threatening rain, so decided not to do the mail boat. Would have been fun though. You go around in the mail boat while he’s delivering the mail to a bunch of islands off the coast. Wouldn’t be fun in the rain though. So, I got on line and bought tickets to see “Crazy For You” playing at the Ogunquit Playhouse. And, Rue McClanahan is a guest star. She plays Mother. Then we headed into Ogunquit to walk the “Marginal Way” which starts at Ogunquit Beach and goes along the shore. Beautiful walk—about a mile one way. So we walked a couple of miles I guess. Felt good to get out and get some exercise. And, it turned into a beautiful afternoon. Of course everyone was heading to the beach in droves. But it was only low 70s, and the water temperature was 58 degrees. At least the surfers were wearing wet suits. Then back to the campground, showered, changed and headed back to Ogunquit for the show. We had dinner at the Cape Neddick Inn in Cape Neddick before the show. The show was great—lots of tap dance numbers and music by Gershwin. Only got to see Rue 3 times, but it was great. She just finished her autobiography, “My First Five Husbands and the Ones who got away”. I had to get that book! During intermission Mike bought it for me! How sweet! Driving back it was very foggy. We leave for Booth Bay tomorrow.
