London Tour

Tue, Aug 18:  London:  This morning we showered, dressed, and headed down to the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast.  Our last here at the hotel because it was way too expensive.  After breakfast we headed out for a hop-on hop-off bus tour of the city.  We saw a lot and will take the subway back to specific points of interest.  We got off at Harrods so we could check it out.  We were told to especially check out the food court.  And what a feast for the senses!  Apparently, Harrods started out as a grocery store—and still is. They offer exotic foods from all over the world. After our tour we checked out the subway station right across from our hotel.  How convenient is that!  There’s also a little pub right across from our hotel where we’ll have dinner tonight.  We sure felt a lot better today than we did yesterday with no sleep.  We walked down to the Thames after we checked in yesterday and had lunch at one of the ships moored there.  Stayed awake as long as we could.  Finally crashed and were able to sleep soundly through the night.  A cloudy day today and you needed a jacket.  But at least it didn’t rain.  Probably tomorrow.

St. Paul's Cathedral is a 5-minute walk from our hotel, which is where we caught our bus tour.

St. Paul's is where Diana and Charles were married.

Harrods is the largest department store in London. At night it is elaborately lit up with thousands of little white lights.

Harrods version of a food court.

Very pricey.

Later...

We went to dinner across the street from our hotel at the Blackfriar Pub.  What a cute little place.  It looks like a church inside because in the 1200s it was a Benedictine Priory.  When Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife, they (the church) argued for and against on this spot.

And the food was good.  I had fish and chips and Mike had some kind of meat pie.  And we didn't have to cross the street, which can be very dangerous in this city.  We just went through the subway tunnels to get to it.

Ceiling of this little pub.
