Drinks at the Flying Monkey Saloon on Duval

Sugarloaf Key: Drove in to Key West this morning to meet our attorney, Dave, and his wife, Linda from St. Louis. Met at Azur Restaurant for a late breakfast. Left there and drove down to the Mohawk parking lot. They followed us so they could see where it is. Parked and then walked through Truman Annex and walked up Duval to have a drink at the Flying Monkey Saloon. Then they had some banking business to take care of so we walked all the way up Duval to their bank on Union. Then continued on to the Southernmost point and were going to have a drink at a bar on the beach there, but too crowded. So, walked back towards the parking lot and stopped at Meteor for yet another drink. Sat around there until about 6:00 and then we went our separate ways. A really fun day. We did a lot of walking. And a beautiful day. 73 I think.

Sugarloaf Key: Still a little on the chilly side, so we decided to go into Key West. Went to the Tropic Cinema and saw “The Reader”. Really good movie—very thought provoking. After that we hit the Key West Speedway and Mike did 4 races. Talked with the owners for a while. Really nice couple. They have a home in Titusville (6200 sq. ft.) and are renting a town home here. They also brought down their 44 foot ketch which they have moored at Garrison Bight. Hope they are still here when we come back in December. Had dinner at Kelly’s on Whitehead. Mike had pork tenderloins and I had penne pasta with grilled chicken and a Jamaican Alf redo sauce with tomatoes. Really good. Walked back to our parking area through the Truman Annex. Saw 6 cats hanging out together. Tried to take a picture but it was too dark. A beautiful evening—lots of stars and a perfect half moon.

Sugarloaf Key: Went out for a hearty breakfast this morning at the Galley Grill. I had a chili omelet and Mike had steak and eggs. I brought about half of mine home. Chilly this morning—low 60s. A very sunny day, but only got up to about 65. We went into Key West to see a movie—“International”. About a corrupt bank. How timely.

Sugarloaf Key: Sunny but cool this morning. Mike went over for donuts and I did my hair and took a shower. Then started cleaning. Got that done and relaxed. Mike went over to play shoes and I got on the computer and got some stuff done. Then played spades on the computer for a while. Had left-overs from last night’s dinner for lunch. Happy hour at the KOA tonight. Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep better than I did last night. Very windy all night. Mid-60s today.

Sugarloaf Key: Started out warm this morning. Esther and Gerald, our Canadian friends, headed out with their motorhome towards the Everglades. Then one front after another came through with gusty winds and pouring rain. We were forced to stay inside. Played on the computer, watched TV and read. Steaks, southwest style mashed potatoes and southwest style corn for dinner. Supposed to go down into the 50s tonight.

Sugarloaf Key: Went to the Galley Grill for breakfast this morning. Then on to the flea market on Big Pine. While we were there we heard there was going to be a reggae band playing at our park this afternoon. We hadn’t heard anything. Came back and sat outside reading for a while. An absolutely fantastic day. Upper 70s and lots of sun. Walked over to say good bye to the Canadians, Gerald and Esther, and sure enough there was a band playing, plus food and drink. We had planned on going to Geiger Key for dinner, so that’s what we did. Geiger Key Marina is a nice place on the Atlantic with good food. After dinner we drove down to Boca Chica beach and walked around for a while. The F-18s were doing touch and gos from the runway that goes right over the beach, but they had finished by the time we got there. Back home and the party was still going on so we walked back over and had a drink. The guys started playing shoes so I listened to the music for a while and then came back to get some computer stuff done. A beautiful day, but supposed to cool down again.

Sugarloaf Key: A beautiful day. Hit the upper 70s. We drove into Key West and did the laundry. Then we went to Sarabeth’s for lunch. Great lunch, but really pricey. Drove back and on the way drove out to Geiger Key. There’s a marina restaurant there that’s supposed to have great food. Found it and will check it out later. Put everything away and relaxed the rest of the day.
