Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: It has now been 109 days since we arrived home and we're finally seeing some progress. We stopped over there yesterday late afternoon, and the room has now been dry-walled, and the windows are all installed! We thought it would be at least two more weeks before we had windows. And, the painting is complete in the living/dining room upstairs. No word yet on the temporary occupancy. But we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Day 103
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: 103 days now since we've been home. Not as hot today, but much more humid so it seems hotter. Went to a movie--"Tomorrow Land" with George Clooney. Not that great. Stuffed myself with popcorn. Some friends invited us to meet them for a couple of drinks tonight. So we're off to Llewellyn's Pub in Old Town St. Charles. I'm picturing a nice cool salad and a nice cool glass of wine. Sounds good!

Day 101
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: 101 days now since we've been home. Talked to our contractor this afternoon and they're going to apply for a temporary occupancy. Don't have a lot of faith in St. Louis county at this point. I was going to bake some pork chops for dinner tonight, but it's really hot. So, we went to Tony's for dinner. Just had a couple of salads. The air conditioner in here has been cranking all day. Hopefully it will cool off a little. As long as there's no severe weather--otherwise we'll head home.

Day 100
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: One hundred days since we've been home. Stopped over at the house this morning to meet the painter. The inspector was supposed to be there--of course he was a no-show. And after talking with our contractor, chances are slim that we'll be able to get in there any time soon (UGH!). Probably not until the final inspection when everything is finished. On the way back to the "homeless shelter" we stopped for lunch. After getting back we went out for a walk and saw a car backing slowly toward us. When it went by us I noticed there was no driver in the car. Went running after it and Mike jumped in and stopped the car. A couple was just pulling in with their motor home, unhooked their car which was still in neutral and forgot to put it in park. Luckily, it didn't hit anyone or any thing. Yikes! Embarrassing, but no harm, no foul. Hit the 90s today under a clear blue sky and a nice breeze.

Day 99
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: 99 days now since we've been home. We actually spent the night last night at home. After hearing about threats of severe weather in the area during the evening hours, after dinner I headed home where at least we have a basement to take shelter in and a garage to shelter our vehicles. Mike joined me a couple of hours later. We did the laundry while we were there. We felt like criminals or interlopers or something. We're still not supposed to be in there. Up early and headed back to the "homeless shelter", stopping first for breakfast. Luckily, no severe weather in our home area or the "homeless shelter". Tomorrow the inspector will be there. Hopefully it won't be much longer....hopefully.

Day 97
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: 97 days now since we've been home. The inspectors are supposed to be there on Monday, then they do the dry wall. Maybe then we'll be able to get back in. Who knows? Today was a beautiful day. We pumped up the tires on the bikes and went off for a ride into St. Charles. Wanted to check out a trail just off the Katy Trail that's on an island in the Missouri River. Unfortunately, the trail was closed because it was flooded out in places. Biked back, stopping for an ice cream cone. Great day! Upper 80s. Brats for dinner and watched American Pharoah win the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown. What a horse!

Day 93
Sundermeier RV Park, St. Charles, MO: It's been 93 days now since we rushed back from Florida to deal with our broken house. Some progress has finally been made. They have filled in the hole where the new foundation was poured. The new interior wall has been framed up and the electrician did his thing. We went over yesterday and met the Charter cable guy who restored our cable TV, phone and wi-fi. Tomorrow the HVAC guy will be there to replace our air conditioning unit. We should be able to move back in shortly. Still have to wait for the county to inspect and approve. That was the original hold-up--the county. What is their problem? Anyway, we can start to see the light.
| Things finally happening. |
| New windows have been ordered, but won't be here for 4-5 weeks. Hope we can still move back with window openings boarded up. |
