Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: Cloudy and gloomy all day today. Stayed inside reading and watching some TV. Decided to go to Key West and see Sherlock Holmes. Big mistake. Even though it starred Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, it was not a very good movie. Was glad when it was over. Back home and had a light dinner. It was a little warmer today, but not much. Supposed to be warmer tonight.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: Up later than we wanted. Showered, dressed and headed to Big Pine to do the laundry and grocery shopping. The Laundromat was packed. After getting things in the dryer, I went to the salon next door and had Nick cut my hair. It was the first time I’d seen him in jeans. Can’t even go to a tiki bar he lamented because it’s been so cold. After getting my hair cut and folding clothes, we did the grocery shopping. Then we went to Pizza Works for their lunch special. Walking back to the truck we saw a rooster and hen in the parking lot. The hen was all puffed up because she had a bunch of chicks and they were all under her trying to stay warm. It only hit 59 today. Still feeling pretty cold. I made pasta for dinner and we had it with some spicy Italian sausage Mike grilled. Dale gave us the sausage.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf, FL: Started out sunny and cold this morning, then clouded up. I think the high was 59 today. A veritable heat wave. We drove to Key West and ran some errands and then stopped at this place we’ve been wanting to check out called “A Buck or Two”. The owner of the building was in there cleaning up because the occupants had gone “belly up.” They left the building in pretty bad shape. We got talking to her and she showed us an iguana that was in a grassy area next to the building. He wasn’t moving and didn’t react at all when Mike touched him. It’s so cold they just shut down. Hopefully it will survive. Salads for dinner.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: Hit a record low for Key West this morning. Unbelievable! Cleaned today and basically hibernated. A beautiful, sunny day—but cold and windy. Undaunted, Mike went over and played shoes. I stayed in and read my book in the warmth. Instead of going to the KOA for happy hour, we went with Esther and Gerald to Mangrove Mama’s. Sandy and John from the site across from us were there also. We had shrimp St. Jacques and wings. Back home and Esther and Gerald came over for coffee and Bailey’s. Tomorrow isn’t supposed to be a whole lot warmer. But it’s supposed to keep getting warmer little by little. The iguanas actually fall out of the trees when it gets this cold.

Haven't seen these guys at all since it's been so cold...

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: Cold and windy AGAIN this morning. Just hung out inside all day watching TV and reading. Gerald called early afternoon and invited us to join them, along with Fiona and Walter, at Finnegan’s to watch the Green Bay/Cardinals football game. We’ll do that for a while. Later we’re going to see “Randy Roberts, Both Ways” at the Tennessee Williams Theater. Randy is one of Key West’s best female impersonators. Supposed to be close to a record low tonight. We will be bundled up.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: This morning I woke up early and it was raining with lots of wind. A really nasty day that never let up. We were supposed to go to see Fiona at Finnegan’s Wake with Esther and Gerald but we decided not to. Not a good day to be outside at all. I made brownies. We stayed in all day watching movies on TV and eating brownies.

Fri, 1/8/10

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: A beautiful, sunny day. Supposed to warm up a little today. Decided to try and back up the computer again. Our Clickfree backup system all of a sudden isn’t working. Still couldn’t get it to work so I called Tech Support. They weren’t sure what was wrong. I really like this system because it is so easy. But since it’s not showing any signs of working any time soon, when we took our rental DVDs back I stopped at Radio Shack and bought another hard drive and will back up using the Windows utility. Esther and Gerald invited us over this evening so we headed over there around 7:00 and sat around talking and drinking until around 11:00. Supposed to be nasty tomorrow.

Lazy Lakes RV Resort, Sugarloaf Key, FL: A mixed day today of clouds and sun. Still pretty cool—only in the 50s. We hung out most of the day and then in the evening we headed to Key West and I went to see La Danse at the Tropic Cinema and Mike went to the Key West Speedway. La Danse is a documentary about the Paris Opera Ballet—mostly dance rehearsals, but also the choreographer working with individual dancers, administration, building maintenance, even what the cafeteria is like and the food they eat. Food looked pretty good for cafeteria food—of course it is France. They also showed the painstaking hand sewing of the elaborate costumes, dress rehearsals, and stage direction. They performed both modern dance numbers and, my favorite, en pointe. Dancers are incredible athletes—displaying both strength and grace. I am definitely a balletomane.
