Sun 8/1/10

Wagon Trail RV Resort, Ellison Bay, WI: This morning I got going early and headed to the lounge to do some computer stuff. When I got there the laundry was unoccupied so I called Mike and had him bring the laundry up so we could get that out of the way at the same time. When the laundry was done, I loaded everything in the truck, turned the computer over to Mike and headed back. Mike came back about a couple of hours later and we decided to go to the Maritime Museum in Gills Rock. They’ve upgraded this museum since we were here last and it was quite interesting. Gils Rock is the commercial fishing center for northern Door County. After the museum we headed to the Shoreline Restaurant in Gils Rock to have an early dinner. They were closed from 3:00 to 5:00. Then we tried the restaurant in Northport—same thing. Tried the Sister Bay Café—ditto. Ended up at Husby’s in Sister Bay and waited forever to get our food. But when we finally did it was delicious. After dinner I suggested we walk back to Sister Bay Café to get some desert, which we did. I had wonderful strawberry shortcake and Mike had some Norwegian desert that I can’t pronounce. We had a fire later that evening and invited our neighbors, Dee and Lynn, over to join us. We had a great time. Polished off a couple bottles of wine and half a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream. They’re retired career Army nurses—one is 80 and the other is pushing 80. But you’d never know it. They’ve served in Vietnam and Korea, lived in Hawaii for a couple of years and have been all over. They come to Door County every year and stay in the same site. Their home is in Texas. They want us to come back here next year. It’ll be a while before we come back. Lots of other places to see.
